The mission of the EPIC Community Involvement subcommittee is to provide emerging professionals a platform for giving back to the Columbia community and Chamber of Commerce. This mission will be carried out through offering both education and awareness of local issues, events and opportunities.
Thank you
to our EPIC team who helped out with Cleanup Columbia on April 24!
We had 20 EPIC members cleaning up trash along Paris Road and
just missed the rain. Here are a few of the participants after
the cleanup:

EPIC
Member Volunteer
Spotlight: Erik Morse

-
Name & Job
Erik Morse, Account Manager at Midwest Computech
-
How long have you resided in Columbia?
I moved here in 1998 from Cape Girardeau to go to Mizzou.
-
When &
where was your first volunteer experience in Columbia?
The experience that really opened the door for me was being a loan executive for United Way while I worked at Boone County National Bank. The most amazing thing to me was to see the unbelievable need for the services provided by the agencies and the willingness of our community to step up and meet those needs, either through their volunteer efforts or monetary pledges.
-
What
organizations do you currently volunteer for?
I am very active with the United Way, assisting with the allocations process, the
campaign and with the Agency Relations Committee. I am
also involved with the Stand By Me program, Family
Counseling Center, The Boys and Girls Club, Youzeum Bike Ramble and
the Buddy Pack Program at the Food Bank through the Core20.
I am also consistently active with the Chamber, serving as co-chair for EPIC, team captain for the
Total Resource Campaign and an Ambassador.
-
What is the most memorable experience you’ve had volunteering?
Received a hug and heartfelt thank you from someone with tears in their eyes whose life was impacted by something with which I was involved.
-
What’s one piece of advice you could offer someone interested in volunteering?
Find a cause for which you have a passion – children, elderly, veterans or homeless – and look for a way to make an impact. It doesn’t always have to be a financial commitment. Find your comfortable level of involvement (which will increase over time), and be sure that you do not spread yourself too thin. It is much better to commit quality time to a couple organizations than it is to say yes to everyone.
-
What is your favorite quote/quote to live by?
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
- Albert Einstein
