Twenty-five students from several area high schools graduated from the Chamber’s 2018 Junior Leadership Columbia program on April 9. Students were joined by program and Chamber leadership, as well as their family and friends to celebrate the conclusion of a nine-month program, which explored local industry areas and centered on topics integral to leadership.
Through these sessions, graduates developed real-world and personal leadership skills, while also becoming familiar with the opportunities, realities and challenges of specific sectors in the Columbia community. In the process, they have had a chance to interact with a variety of business and community leaders.
The students participated in a session toward the end of the program focusing on soft skills of professional communication, interviewing, and networking and got to put this to practice by attending the April 4th Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Membership Breakfast and April 5 Chamber Showcase CoMo, where they walked around and visited with businesses along with a mentor from the adult Leadership Columbia class.
Junior Leadership Columbia is a unique opportunity for high school juniors and maintains a competitive application process. Applications have been received for the Class of 2019 and are currently under review.
