Leadership Columbia is a program of the Chamber developed to identify, cultivate and motivate future community leaders. The class of Leadership Columbia 2017 began in January and has completed its Retreat, Social Services, Education, and Healthcare sessions. Each session begins with an hour of leadership skills development with Tony Richards of Clear Vision Development Group, followed by in-depth exploration of a particular industry area. During the session, participants learn from panel discussions, presentations, tours, hands-on experience, one-on-one interaction with community leaders, and group activities. The class will continue to meet through mid-June and explore the following topics: Development & Industry, Media, State Government, Local Government, Arts & Recreation, and Life Sciences & Agriculture.
The 31 members of the Class of 2017 represent a diverse mix of professional industries, such as small business owners, insurance, law, banking, financial services, nonprofit sector, higher education, adult education, hospital, medical and medical research, building and construction, engineering, real estate, media, and consulting.
Leadership Columbia takes community members who have demonstrated an ability and desire to assume greater community leadership responsibility, and equips them with knowledge of both their leadership strengths and styles and the unique resources in the Columbia community. The program is beneficial to those seeking to deepen their community relationships and meaningful contacts, or are new to the Columbia area and want to learn what resources the community has to offer.
Co-chairs of this year’s Leadership Columbia class are Chuck Bowman, Monarch Title Company, Inc. and Shatenita Horton, Providence Bank. The Presenting Sponsor of Leadership Columbia 2017 is Stephens College.
