The Federation of Internet Solution Providers of the Americas has elected Carson Coffman of Socket as its treasurer. Coffman, Socket co-owner, will draw on more than 17 years of experience to help other small to mid-sized telecommunications companies throughout the country. Many of those companies, like Socket, are building or expanding fiber-optic broadband networks.
There will be a town hall meeting scheduled for October 19 at 2 p.m. at the Columbia Board of REALTORS (2309 I 70 DR SW) to discuss Amendment 4. This constitutional amendment will prohibit taxes on services that are not currently being taxed. No RSVP is required.
Columbia Public Schools is in need of the business community’s help. CPS Superintendent Dr. Peter Stiepleman is looking for 15 representatives of local businesses to participate in Columbia Public Schools World Cafe on October 19. The World Cafe is an annual community discussion event. This year’s theme is Teaching and Learning in Today’s World. The event will be most successful if leaders and representatives from local businesses participate to share what local companies are looking for from potential employees. Representatives of the local business community are crucial, as without them, audience members can only speculate on what our kids need. With business community members, the discussion can focus on what actual business people say they need.

KRCG 13 is pleased to announce the addition of a new morning newscast as well as a recently-hired morning co-anchor. Joining Dick Preston at the desk is Katie Moeller. Dick Preston continues his role as the face of the Live at Sunrise newscasts. Meteorologist Zac Evans will continue to provide a look ahead at the day’s weather. Stephanie Hirata joins the Live at Sunrise morning team as a reporter and will conduct live in-studio interview segments with members of the community.
Joe Machens – Dealerships will be hosting Wine, Women, & Song which is the first of its kind in Columbia. The evening will be full of women enjoying wine, appetizers, entertainment, and song (men are welcome to attend also). It’s a perfect night for the girlfriends to get together, get dolled up, sip excellent Missouri Wines, be entertained (or do the entertaining), all while raising money for an exceptional cause in Central Missouri, Head Start. The goal of Wine, Women, & Song is to raise money for the CMCA Head Start Program with the help of the Columbia community. Tickets: $50 each and will be available for purchase approximately 6 weeks prior to the event. Save-the-Date for the October 11th Community Visioning Session to help the COMO Connect Service Evaluation Team! The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Activity Recreation Center (1701 W Ash Street). You will be refining the vision for improved transit in the city, determining priority community transit needs and desires and identifying goals for improved bus service.

She has spent the last 4 years working for MFA Oil in the Petro Card Operations Department offering support and technical assistance to employees in the field. She brings with her over 10 years of Administrative experience and is looking forward to being a part of the SOA Team. SOA is a 12-person architecture and interior design firm specializing in total design services for medical facilities, higher education, corporations, and financial institutions.
The Central Bank of Boone County Board of Directors has named Bill Costello assistant vice president of relationship banking. Costello works individually with clients to assist them with financial services needs from mortgages and investments to business services and traditional banking. He has worked in financial services for more than six years after a successful career in marketing and advertising.

Keegan received his Master of Architecture at the College of Architecture Planning & Design at Kansas State University. Keegan brings with him 4 years of experience in a variety of markets including commercial, government, residential, and design-build. Central Bank of Boone County announces six employee promotions made in August. Lauren Maki was promoted to assistant branch manager at the Rock Bridge Bank. Morgan Johnston of the Smiley Lane Bank and Bethany Hadsell of the South County Bank in Ashland were both promoted to financial associate. Katelyn Shively has been promoted to a sales assistant with Central Investment Advisors. Marissa Bacon and Brittany Woods were promoted in the loan operations department where support services are provided to all the loan areas of the bank.

Kenneth Winn, editor of the book Missouri Law and the American Conscience: Historic Rights and Wrongs (U. of Missouri Press, 2016) will speak at the Boone County Historical Society on October 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. As the October feature in the Meet the Author series, Winn will share historical Missouri court cases that represented top-of-mind issues in their day. Topics include civil rights (such as the cases of Dred Scott and Virginia Minor), baseball player contracts (Curt Flood), and the creation of the “Missouri Court Plan.” The ten essays in this book illustrate Missouri as both maker and microcosm of American history. Admission to the event at 3801 Ponderosa Street, Columbia, is free. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the event begins at 10:30 a.m. Book signings and sales follow at 11:30 a.m. Every Meet the Author presentation includes complimentary coffee and doughnuts. The Show-Me STATE GAMES MU Children’s Hospital Pumpkin Fun Run has it all. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on October 1 at Philips Lake Park in Columbia. There is a $10 entry fee for students, which includes a t-shirt and registration packet. Parents and teachers run free (does not include t-shirt). As an added incentive to participate, students can help win $500 for their school. The three schools in each enrollment category that have the highest percentage of students participate will win $500 for their physical education department. In addition, each student will be entered to win one of two bikes.
This summer, 22,806 athletes took part in the Show-Me STATE GAMES Olympic-style sports festival, many taking home gold, silver and bronze medals. Only two athletes receive the GAMES highest honor – Missouri Lottery Athletes of the Year. The Show-Me STATE GAMES is pleased to announce Lindsey Hervey and Louis Vitucci are the 2016 Missouri Lottery Athletes of the Year. The Show-Me STATE GAMES has been recognizing a male and female athlete of the year since 1994. The criteria for selection of the Athlete of the Year award includes attitude and effort, the representation of the spirit of amateur athletics and the State Games movement, and overall athletic participation and achievement.
