Leadership Visit is happening! As with everything in 2020, our annual program is not exactly how we imagined it back in 2019. However, we are glad to provide the opportunity to our community to safely gather while working towards bettering our community.
The Leadership Visit is an annual fall experience coordinated by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce for a diverse delegation of business, education, government, and community leaders from Columbia and Boone County. For six years, the Leadership Visit program has had an opportunity to explore the best ideas of nationally-recognized communities across the United States. Past cities have included Fort Collins, CO., and Ann Arbor, MI. In 2020, the Leadership Visit is taking place at home in Columbia, MO, to reinvest in our community. We are proud to give back to our business community during this challenging time that has been particularly hard on our service and hospitality industries, as well as small businesses.
Last night, Leadership Visit kicked off at The Blue Note with our annual Welcome Reception. Attendees savored samplings from blue Events and listened to live, local music. This year’s attendance is as diverse as previous years with representatives from media, small business, higher education, the City of Columbia and Boone County, finance, among other industries.
During the next two days, leaders in our community will review the opportunities and challenges in Columbia and engage in collective visioning for our ongoing economic recovery. Topics will include crime, healthcare, K-12 and higher education, workforce development, challenges for minority-owned businesses, and tourism, among others.
While we may be in Columbia, the goal of Leadership Visit remains the same. We hope to facilitate an exchange of best practices and lessons learned among participants, in order to address specific issues or concerns in our community, provide an opportunity for honest dialogue about challenges, opportunities, location advantages, and innovative approaches to tackle community issues, and offer high-level network develop and relationship-building opportunities outside of their typical environment.
